Retail Love

Long time; No blog! It seems that I have seriously neglected this blog! Its time I get back on it and begin to blog again. Today’s blog is short and sweet, just passing along a little useful retail therapy information. Everyone has their days when a retail therapy is just the right prescription, but how about making it every day? I thought I would simply share a few of my favorite sites that help me in finding fabulous designer deals. Each of these sites you must become a member and they will send you daily updates with new designer sales. All of these sites are extremely high traffic, so you must act fast or the items are quickly snatched up! So here we are:

http://www.gilt.com/ Today it is fabulous Fendi Watches!!
http://www.beyondtherack.com/
http://www.ruelala.com/
http://www.shopittome.com/ This one is A LOT of fun! You tell it the designers you are interested in and how frequently you want updates and it surfs the internet for sites that have your designers on sale with items available in your size. Can’t get any better than that!

All of these sites have items for men too!!!

Cheers!

The M Word

I thought we would take this beautiful Thursday to have a brief discussion of the M word…Monogamy. According to the dictionary Monogamy is: mo⋅nog⋅a⋅my Spelled Pronunciation [muh-nog-uh-mee]
Use Monogamy in a Sentence
–noun
1. marriage with only one person at a time.

2. Zoology. the practice of having only one mate.

3. the practice of marrying only once during life.

After careful observation during my nights out, I am left questioning if it actual exists for my generation or can it all together be removed from the English dictionary? I time after time see people in relationships out flirting with people other than their spouses, am approached by married men, or see someone’s significant other leave and 5 minutes later they are snuggled up with someone else.

Has this type of behavior become acceptable? It now seems that monogamy may be the exception and possibly not the rule. Aside from marriage (I will always believe in the vows one makes before God), is it now understood that you may be dating multiple people at a time and because everyone is doing it it’s ok?

Let’s face it, this would never be a discussion in a relationship because everyone wants to believe that they are the one and only even though they may know they aren’t. It’s not as if you would come home and no babe I can’t tonight I have another date. But if you are both simply minding your own business and schedules does it now breathe different expectations to your relationship?

I spent my adult life as a serial monogamist focused on building perfect relationships. Now when I consider monogamy, I even consider jumping the fence. Is it possible it doesn’t make sense in dating to place all your “eggs in one basket”; as my grandmother would say? From personal experience when you spend your time building a relationship and the other person turns out to, put nicely, be a complete and utter disappointment is it better to just pull out another egg and keep it moving…Spread the love?

If in fact you take this approach to dating, are you then capable of creating a strong relationship with someone else? If you are used to dating multiple people then would it be difficult to turn the switch and suddenly become a monogamist for the right person? I am not sure that there is one rule to monogamy that all should follow, but I do think it makes for interesting conversation. Where do you stand on monogamy? Are you into one on one or do you prefer to play with a team?

Google Me

As an event planner, I plan many weddings. With each wedding I plan it seems that the crowd gets more and more interesting. It’s not the bride that makes the weddings unique, but the guests. However, with all of the differences there is one consistent theme through all weddings; that men single and married are there to meet women.

The past month I received my fair share of horrible male pick up lines. There are two however that are especially note worthy. The first being “Every wedding I attend I make it a point to go home with someone, I was thinking this wedding it should be you”. Do you think that line had worked on some poor female at a previous wedding? How much alcohol would you need to ingest to think that was cute? I am all about using a wedding as a great place to network and meet people, but REALLY! Where do men get off thinking that a line like that could actually work? Maybe if he had laughed after saying it we could have all thought it was funny and moved on, but to hold a straight face and wait for a response is completely ridiculous. I just wonder if the roles were reversed, and I walked up to him with a line like this would he have said “cool let’s get out of here” or would he have thought I was a complete moron?

If you are awaiting my response it was simply “Do you live in town?” He said “Yes”. I then said “Sorry, our only chance would have been if I knew I would never run into you again”. I however, do give him props for getting straight to the point! I do like a man that can cut straight to the chase.

The next weekend’s wedding got even better. Now there is much to be discussed about this wedding. It actually deserves its own posting…maybe tomorrow. Amongst many crazy comments, at this wedding the pickup line was a classic! “Why won’t you talk to me? I run a billion dollar company…Google me!” Google Me…is he serious? Unfortunately, he was very serious. He could not understand that despite his wife and kids at home that I would not be interested in him and if for nothing else the fact that he runs a billion dollar company. Why would you want a woman to talk to you solely for this reason? Is the real question you are asking me not “why won’t you talk to me”, but “why won’t you spend my money”? If Googling him was the deciding factor, then wouldn't in fact my only motivation be to spend the man’s money? In which case I say; if you are looking to pay for “it” there are easier ways than trying to pick up your sister’s wedding planner! It is times like this I say to myself “If this is a husband, I am so glad I don’t have one!” Give me Manolos, they’ve never let me down!

Oh and ladies if you’re wondering; of course I Googled him…he does run a billion dollar company:)

Write us about your favorite lines! We'd love to hear them!!

Sticks and Stones Will Break Your Bones

I would like to first begin with the disclaimer that I truly hate the fact that the media continues to discuss Chris Brown and Rihanna. I have personal had more than enough of discussing their “incident” and am fully ready for everyone to move on from this and allow them to heal. I however, have been more than disturbed by many of the comments that I continue to hear on this issue, especially the comments of young girls.

It seems there is now some consensus that since Rihanna was apparently upset about something that in some way she provoked the incident and is therefore somehow the one at fault. This absolutely outrages me!!!! I don’t care if she talked about his mother, called him a donkey, or told him he was “small”; it does not give him any license to beat her. In relationships, things sometimes get heated and conversations get heavy, but they cannot result in this type of violent beating. For our public to justify these actions by claiming she may have deserved it is completely insane.

Where is the line then drawn of what you can say that’s acceptable before you cross over to the “danger zone” where your partner is then allowed to beat the crap out of you? Is it to the man’s discretion? If you call him a liar its ok, but calling him a cheater gets you a beat down? Who sets these rules? Maybe we can just adopt the new law of Afghanistan while we are at it where if your wife denies you sex you have the right to stone her. How about that one?? If we can justify this, we sure are headed there.

None of this is acceptable. Please, let’s begin teaching our daughters, sisters, and neighbors what acceptable treatment is. Show them that they are entitled to be strong willed and have opinions. Do everything you can to make sure that they know they are not the property of a man and that they deserve to be treated with love and respect. Let’s help our sons, brothers, and friends to learn how to appropriately handle issues and confrontations. Domestic violence is a major issue in our communities and especially among young people. Statistically, one and three high school students have been or will be involved in an abusive relationship. This number is not only sad, but extremely alarming.

We have to consider how our comments are perceived. Domestic violence is no laughing matter. Under no circumstance is it ok to fight words or hurt feelings with violence. Please create awareness on this issue and do not feed it by sensationalizing and validating the actions of Chris Brown. Please people, STOP THE MADNESS!

Labels

It seems that many people’s “high maintenance” comments have related being "high maintenance" to the love of labels. If this is the case (which I disagree with), I would argue that then everyone is in fact then “high maintenance”. Don’t we all actually have a love for labels?

There are Coke A Cola drinkers who would never drink a Pepsi. There are McDonalds lovers who think Burger King is disgusting. There are wine connoisseurs that would never drink 2 buck chuck, argyle wearers who think no one but J Crew makes an argyle, and those Apple fans that are convinced that everything else is a type writer. Regardless of the product, everyone has their personal preference. That is why there are so many products to choose from.

Man or woman, we like what we like. From Playtex to Tampax or Charmin to Cottonelle, everyone has a “label” that fits them best. It is natural to find something that we like and stick with it. So what that you buy expensive designer jeans, if they fit you best and you can afford them go for it. It is difficult to find the right pair of jeans for your body type, so once you find it you never want anything else. Men, maybe you like shopping at Home Depot over Lowes or you enjoy Papa Johns over Pizza Hut, is that not also love for a label?

The problem becomes when the label defines you. The items that you prefer to buy should be what makes you happy but not what defines you. A smart man once said to me “Sure, if you like that than have it just remember that times may not always be this good so you may not be able to have that always. Just be comfortable in making needed adjustments in your life.” I think that is important. We should enjoy the things in life we love weather it is shoes, cars, or cinnamon rolls but everything must come in moderation and it must not be what molds our personalities.

Never be afraid to step outside of your box and try something you thought you didn’t like. While I love my nice shoes, I can always find a good pair at Target too. I have always been a Coke drinker, but I do enjoy the occasional Pepsi. Regardless if I am wearing jeans and tee or stilettos and a dress, you always know what you’re gonna get.

Today’s “4 the Luv” Fab Find:
To go along with today’s topic, today’s shoes come from Target.com. They are Mossimo sandals. They are a spin on this spring’s very popular ruffle wedge sandal style. They retail for $26.99.

High Maintenance vs. Body Maintenance

Oh, you have your nails done… “Aren’t you high maintenance?” What, you frequently get your hair done too…”You are so high maintenance!” You like designer labels…”High maintenance!” You don’t eat McDonalds…”Princess, you are so high maintenance!”

High Maintenance, High Maintenance, High Maintenance

Who decided that a woman who likes to take care of themselves deserves a negative name like high maintenance? Now suddenly taking care of yourself receives frequent negative comments. Gentlemen, we get our nails done so that our hands don’t look cracked and manly. We get our hair done so that we don’t walk around looking crazy. Yes, we like to look nice and we don’t eat McDonalds because if we did you would call us “obese” instead of “high maintenance”. These practices should not be considered “high maintenance”. We actually just simply get Body Maintenance.

Body Maintenance as defined by (ME) is the simple act of taking care of one’s self both physically and emotionally. This is similar to the way you have to wash your car, change the oil, and get regular tune ups. All things good require maintaining. How about we all be honest and admit that you actually appreciate your lady participating in these acts of body maintenance. You don’t actually want a girlfriend with rough hands and cracked feet. Would you prefer your wife’s hair to have split ends and roots? And we all know that you don’t want our butts to resemble a Big Mac.

And Ladies, you should understand this behavior of maintaining your body. Please do not participate in the insane accusations that a women who takes care of themselves has a problem. We are going to conclude that any woman who calls another high maintenance is the one who deserves the title. We’ll call you “jealous”.

Finally, by the way men, we also appreciate you participating in similar acts of body maintenance and we don’t call you names. We love it when you get haircuts. We appreciate you taking care of your hands and feet. We love it when you dress nice and prefer for you not to have a beer belly. So how about if we call it even and agree to simply take care of ourselves. The next time we come home from the salon or spa consider your alternatives and please, unless the name is “Beautiful” no name calling!

Amber, April, and Allison

On yesterdays Oprah, she ventured to the very mysterious Polygamy Ranch in Texas. This very interesting place creates so many questions in the minds of most of us living in the “outside world”. There are both interesting and disturbing aspects of life here. Most of which I will not be discussing. However, one topic that I find interesting is polygamy.

Polygamy is a concept extremely foreign to most of us. The idea of sharing your husband and home with another women can be concerning to say the least. I however, am not sure that it is the worst model for a marriage that there could be. If looked into this further, I think that we would find that there could be benefits to this model.

Imagine coming home from work and it being Amber your sister wife's turn to cook dinner, April’s turn to clean the kitchen, and Allison’s turn to give the kids baths. What would you do with all of that free time? The sharing of household responsibilities, I would imagine is priceless. Not to mention never having to use the old “I have a head ache” excuse again. Instead it’s simple “Don’t touch me, it’s not my day…down the hall you go!” Many women could probably stand to share vacations and gifts in exchange for the “days off” of both household and marriage responsibilities.

The amount of people that it takes to run many American households can add up. Consider the amount of money spent in households with nannies and housekeepers. Now there is no need. You simply split the duties with your “sister wife”. You will never again use the phrase “If only I could clone myself”. Your husband has already cloned you.

Now of course there are women who say that this so sexist, why should men get multiple wives and women not get multiple husbands. These women are clearly not thinking straight. Who would want multiple husbands? That is another person to cook for, another person that can’t find the hamper, another person to hear complain, and yet one more reason why you can’t just go to sleep as soon as you get in bed when you are tired. I believe that upon careful consideration no woman would actually want multiple husbands.

My personality and believes will however not allow me to participate in such behaviors nor am I condoning this. I am simply saying while there are many negatives, there may be more positives than we may think to the polygamy marriage model. Besides, with all my shoes, no man could afford to have multiples of me!

Tom and Jerry

Most people know “Tom and Jerry” as a classic cartoon that is watched by many different ages, shown in various languages, and loved by many people across the world. If ask what is “Tom and Jerry” it would probably be described as a famous television cartoon about a cat and a mouse that was established in the 40s. I however would argue that it is the current model for dating; the cat and mouse game.

The cat chases the mouse and the mouse teases the cat. This dating ritual can be seen when going out and all the “cats” are chasing “mice” or even through people whom have already established a sort “relationship”. But, is it really a relationship if you are still playing games? As related to Tom and Jerry, both parties can have equal roles in engaging in tormenting each other and at times they have equal enjoyment. At what point are games no longer acceptable?
Is the chase the only thing to be found interesting in a relationship? What happens after the prey has been caught? It seems that the interim between the chase and whatever is next is where it gets blurry. Is it so difficult to keep a relationship “spicy” without playing games? Is it really that uninteresting once they actually call you back?

And then there are the “rules”. Don’t call her the day after the date, wait three days before calling him, say you are busy the next time they ask you out…REALLY!!! Is this what is necessary and required to enjoy the company of the opposite sex?

I am no expert on the ins and outs of dating and will not use this venue to pretend to be. I however will caution people to engage fairly. Tom, if you are interested in only the chase, make for certain that Jerry’s into it. Jerry, if you enjoy teasing Tom with your wittiness and opportunistic personality, make sure he likes the chase. Most importantly Tom, when you find a good mouse, do what it takes to hang on to it. Remember, Jerry always gets away!

Grinding, Groping, and Grabbing

Since this is the weekend, I found it only suiting that our first “Hot Topic” be relevant to Saturday nights. As my friends and I begin to embark on the Saturday night excursion out I thought I would throw out a very important topic.

I appreciate a good drink and time with friends. I also love to dance. Dancing is not only a natural reaction to music, but is also a fabulous way to burn those martini calories while simultaneously drinking them. It is so frustrating that this simple enjoyment is now almost impossible to enjoy! I ask the question who decided grinding, groping, and grabbing was an acceptable form of meeting a female at a bar or club.

I imagine that one day while out a bold drunk man thought he would try his luck and inappropriately grab a female that they did not know. This female apparently with her low self esteem and demoralizing habits allowed this to happen. The male then called all of his friends, who called all of their friends, who called all of their friends and told them of this new acceptable touching policy. Now suddenly men don’t even gage the female to decide if this behavior is appropriate.

It is now assumed that because you come equipped with breast and an ass that you welcome the three Gs from random men at clubs. Today I let the men of the world know that this is SOLEly unacceptable! We do not appreciate uninvited touching. We do not want you to get so close that we smell your breath first thing upon meeting you. We do not need to be flipped around while dancing. And we most certainly do not want to feel your “member” in our backs when dancing! However, we would like a polite introduction, a non sexual compliment, or an offer to purchase a drink. If you are still confused on how to treat a lady, please refer to the way you would like a man to treat your mother, sister, aunt, or grandmother. And finally would the female who lied and told all the men of the world this was acceptable behavior “Please stand up”, apologize, and close your legs!
